Leadership

What abilities should a leader have?

One of the most important qualities of a great leader is honesty. A good leader is someone who is truthful and transparent with their team. They are open and honest about their intentions and are willing to admit when they are wrong. Honesty is the foundation of trust, and without trust, it is impossible to build a strong and effective team.

Another important quality of a great leader is empathy. Someone who is able to understand the needs and feelings of their peers. They are able to put themselves in other’s shoes and see things from their perspective. Empathy is essential for building strong relationships and creating a supportive work environment.

Communication is another important attribute. They should be able to communicate effectively with their team. They are able to listen actively and respond in a way that is clear and concise and able to provide feedback and guidance in a way that is constructive and helpful.

They should be decisive and adaptable, so they can make clear decisions which they believe are the right ones, and be able to easily adapt to this new environment and changes. They can way pros and cons of a decision and aren’t afraid to take risks and make changes when necessary, being able to take responsibility if it’s the wrong action.

So, what does this mean?

I think someone who shows all these qualities are the teachers who surround us everyday. They’re understanding of what we’re going through and always make sure we’re in a safe environment when we get to school. The teachers are motivated, and they’re always down for a laugh with us but they know how to discipline us and do what’s best for us, pushing us to our fullest potential. They’re considerate of the things we’re going through and know what decisions to make for us, while also being patient with us… well most of the time.

In conclusion, leadership is about inspiring and guiding others toward a common goal. A great leader is someone who is honest, empathetic and has a clear vision. They are able to communicate effectively, make tough decisions and adapt to change. Remember, leadership is not about being in charge, it’s about taking care of those in your charge.

Ahurea

What is my understanding of Tuakiri?

I understand that Tuakiri relates towards one’s identity or just themselves. Tuakiri means everything that is unique to yourself and makes you, you. This includes things like religion, race, skin, beliefs, blood, culture, just your uniqueness etc.

What is my understanding of Turangawaewae?

My understanding of Turangawaewae, is that it’s like the land you came from, or places that just related to you as a person (or yous whānau)

What is my understanding of Tāonga tuku iho?

Tāonga tuku iho is a variety of things. It is anything sacred or meaningful to you or your whānau. This includes things like land or treasured items/Tāonga such as jewellery or buildings (whare, marae)

How do these concepts relate to the topic “Ahurea”?

Tuakiri, Turangawaewae and Tāonga tuku iho relate to the topic of Ahurea because they all surround things that mean alot to us as people, whether it’s our blood, our land or just sacred family heirlooms.

Write about what I’ve learnt during this topic:

During this topic, I have learnt the importance of not just my own culture.. but also others. I’ve learnt how our culture is so unique and different from others, yet how we’re so similar to other cultures in how we all celebrate and honour traditional occasions.

PhotoFunia

Today in English, we learnt what PhotoFunia was and how to use it. First, we had to take a photo of ourselves, remove the backround and download it to your files. You then go on the PhotoFunia app, and you can choose your theme and insert your photo into one, making you look famous. This is what I have created using PhotoFunia:

Migration

Last term in social studies, we were learning about Migration.
We have learnt things like the different types of migration, and reasons people migrate.

Examples of the different kinds of migration include :
Internal – Moving to a new home within the same state, country or continent.
External – Moving to a different home in a different state, country or continent.
Emigration – Leaving one country to move to another.
Immigration – Moving to a new country.
Population migration – When a government forces a large group of people out of a region.
Impelled migration – Individuals are not forced out of their country, but leave because of unfavourable situations.
Step migration – A series of shorter, less extreme migrations from a person’s place of origin to the final destination.

I believe that this unit helped me grow a much better understanding of what migration really is and what causes it.

Taonga tuku iho

The most recent assignment we’ve done in social studies is Taonga Tuku Iho.
This slide was mainly focused around significant taonga to our whanau.
For example, the first slide in this slideshow is titled: Property that is or may be inherited, and inheritance. In this slide I included my family homestead and my papa’s house with all the land surrounding it. The rest of this slideshow contains slides such as valued object which have been passed on through previous generations, relating to things of special architectural, historical or natural value that are preserved for the nation, traditional brands or products well known for their fine craftsmanship and 3 different breeds of livestock that were once traditional to an area, but are no longer found in large numbers.

Name ko Au

Another assignment we’ve done this term is “Name ko Au”.
In this assignment, we had to create a slide pretty much introducing ourselves and our cultural background. It was made up of 8 slides. In these 8 slides, we included our name, 2 different photos of ourselves, 5 different things that are unique to our culture, our beliefs as a culture, Taonga tuku iho which is also known as sacred items to us or our family, a poem related to our culture, things about ourselves which we believe makes us who we are today and 6 tourist attractions/significant things to Aotearoa.

Kiwi Icons

For social studies this term, one of the things we have been focusing on is tourist attractions of Aotearoa.

One of the ways we presented this was by making a slide including different “Kiwi Icons” as quoted.

We made 5 slides containing 5 different tourist attractions, and in each slide we had to include the following questions and answers: When was it created and by who?, What is it about and why does it identify itself to be of NZ?, and why did we choose this as our Kiwi Icon?

Here’s a link to my document: Kiwi icons – Nevaeh Williams

Film Studies.

What is film studies..?

Just last term, I would’ve been asking the same question.. but during English this term, we have been studying film.

This includes things like different camera angles, settings, costumes, dialogue and more.

To the right there is a Word Art poster I’ve made. It contains multiple different words surrounding our topic of “film studies” including the names of different movie shot angles like a dolly or panoramic, and I think this poster was an effective and smart way of showing this terms work. It’s presented neatly, and gets the message across using bold colours and eye-catching fonts, intriguing people to read it and learn the basics in film studies.

Science, States Of Matter.

In science we have been learning about matter, The 3 main states of matter are:

Solid – In a solid, particles are close together and fixed in place. Ice is a solid.

Liquid – In a liquid, particles are close together but moving and sliding around each other. Water is a liquid.

Gas – In a gas, the particles are far apart and always moving. Oxygen is a gas.

An experiment we conducted while studying the matter unit was called :

“The Imploding Can”

In this experiment, we put a little bit of water in a can, and heated it up over a bunsen burner until the water got hotter and we saw steam come out of the top. Once it become really hot, we put the can into a container of cold/room temperature water. It made a loud popping sound, and shrunk.

This happened because the particles in a gas when heated move faster and further apart. When the can is submerged in the cold water, the gas particles contract together making the can implode.

My Favourite Song – English

I chose Tupac Shakurs song “Dear Mama”, which is a tribute song to his mother, Afeni Shakur.

What is his song about, and why do I like it?

His song is about him and his mothers relationship/journey together. It gives examples of the struggles they encountered during his upbringing and how his mother was an addict at some parts of their childhood, but she still raised him and his sister as a single mother. It shows that life will get tough and it won’t be easy, but at the end of the day anything can be overcome.

I like this song because it is showing that not all relationships are going to be perfect, and you will face obstacles and challenges in life, but at the end of the day the love they had for each other will never change, even if Tupac didn’t show it much. This song is a way for him to express the emotions, gratitude, appreciation and just genuine feelings he felt towards his mother in the most efficient way he can, rapping/singing.

Statement

In his song, the lyrics are meant to acknowledge the irreplaceable impact she made on his life, and sympathize with the particular struggle she went through as a single mother, particularly in their low-income setting.

Explain

And the track goes on to read like a memoir from his upbringing. Notable facts include his family growing up poorer than their neighbors, as well as Tupac getting mixed up with the wrong crowd and not having a father in his life.

He famously mentions the fact that she was once an addict during his youth. But what all of this boils down to is him expressing an unequivocal appreciation for the sacrifices she made in raising him and his sister.

Example

Tupac starts the song off with the lyrics of When I was young, me and my mama had beef. Seventeen years old, kicked out on the streets” Recounting him getting kicked out by his mother while they (at the time) had beef, and he was so angry to the point of never wanting to deal with her again “Though back at the time I never thought I’d see her face. Ain’t a woman alive that could take my mama’s place” but afterwards, he came to the realization that his mother would always be his number 1 and no one could ever take his place.

Explain x2

In other words, despite knowing he can never truly recompense her, Tupac still wants to let his mother know how he feels by making public professions of his love, and in the process of doing so he idolizes her as a symbol of commitment, courage and resilience. This song resultantly made Afeni somewhat of a celebrity in her own right.
